Reading a Toro: What 7/13, Jet Perc and Jet Ball Mean

Toro names its pieces after how they are built. Once you know the shorthand, the name tells you most of what you need.

The Numbers Are Arm Counts

A Toro called a 7/13 has two percolator stages stacked in it: a seven arm section at the bottom feeding a thirteen arm section above it. That is all the numbers mean. More arms is more diffusion — the water gets broken into more, smaller paths. A 7/13 is the middle of the road: strong diffusion, a bit of drag, and the piece Toro is best known for.

The Words Are Perc Types

Jet perc — a jet-style diffusion section rather than arms.

Jet ball — a jet perc feeding into a ball shaped splash guard.

Circ — a circ perc, a circular disc style section. A "circ to circ" runs one into another; a "circ to 13 arm" runs a circ into a thirteen arm tree.

Tree — the arm style you see in a 7/13.

Reversal sections — colored linework sections worked so the pattern turns back on itself "wig waged" through the glass. That is decoration rather than function, and it is usually what makes one Toro cost more than another with the same perc.

The Size Words

Full size, mini, micro, macro and stout describe the body. Two pieces can share a perc setup and be very different objects — a full size 7/13 and a mini 7/13 do the same thing at different scales.
